The Sustainable Water Infrastructure Management (SWIM) Center at Virginia Tech offers an education program in Water Infrastructure Asset Management titled “SWIMeD”. The aim of the SWIMeD program is to broaden and deepen the body of knowledge for practicing drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater professionals through professional courses, workshops, and conferences.
Phase I of the SWIMeD program includes the Essentials of Asset Management Certificate, which prepares participants with the skills and know-how needed to address the critical infrastructure asset management demands of utilities, water systems, local governments, and other entities operating in the water industry.
The Essentials of Asset Management Certificate includes the following three courses:
This three-course certificate program brings together the research-based knowledge of university faculty with the hands-on expertise of water industry practitioners in a convenient, self-paced, and online delivery platform.
Courses are designed for individuals working in key roles within the water sector industry including: asset and operations managers; utility operators, water system technicians, consultants, and technology providers. These professionals are seeking to enhance their technical skills, broaden the knowledgebase, strengthen their understanding of key issues, and take on greater water infrastructure asset management responsibilities within their organizations.
Phase II of the SWIMeD program will add the Enabling Asset Management Certificate that is currently being developed. Planned courses for this new certificate include:
