The conference will bring together pavement design and management engineers, companies specialized in providing pavement management services and data collection, researchers and specialists on asset/pavement management, general pavement/ road engineers, planners dealing with the development of public works programs, and academics specializing in pavement design, analysis and management.

photo of Tanveer Chowdhury The conference is aimed at defining the requirements for the “next generation” of pavement management tools need and to that effect it builds upon the following theme: "moving pavement management beyond the short-term: embracing innovation and addressing sustainability, accountability, and improved performance." A key goal of the conference is to fully engage pavement managers and other practitioners and academics from around the world with best practices pertaining to effective and innovative data collection, analysis tools, performance-based investment strategies, sustainability, and approaches to managing pavements and support the needs of high-level decision makers/ CEOs.

The conference provides a unique forum to interact with colleagues from all over the world and will allow you to contribute to the shaping the next generation of approaches and systems used for managing our pavement assets.

The Transportation Research Board (TRB), the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Virginia Tech, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the World Road Association (PIARC) are organizing the 9th International Conference on Managing Pavement Assets (ICMPA9) in Alexandria, Virginia, located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, U.S.A.

Topics of discussion will include:

  1. The “next generation” of pavement management systems;
  2. Sustainable design, construction, maintenance, and operation of pavement assets;
  3. Performance measurement, implementation targets and contractual requirements;
  4. Increasing the accountability of the various asset management stakeholders;
  5. Innovative, effective, and sustainable pavement management practices and applications.

The main theme of the conference is "Moving Pavement Management beyond the Short-Term: Embracing Innovation and Addressing Sustainability, Accountability, and Improved Performance." The conference will build on this theme and look into what are the short, medium, and long-term challenges and opportunity that lay ahead for our field.

The conference is planned to serve a broad audience, which includes: pavement design and management engineers, companies specialized in providing pavement management services and data collection, researchers and specialists on asset/pavement management, general pavement/ road engineers, planners dealing with the development of public works programs, and academics specializing in pavement design, analysis and management.

A key goal of the conference will be to fully engage pavement managers and other practitioners from U.S. State DOTs, Canadian Provinces, local municipalities and professionals from around the world to best practices pertaining to effective and innovative data collection, analysis tools, performance-based investment strategies, sustainability, and approaches to manage pavements and have the support of high-level decision makers and CEOs.
