About Your Instructors
Your instructors are from the Department of Apparel, Housing & Resource
Management at Virginia Tech:
Dr. Julia O. Beamish teaches in several areas of housing design
including residential space planning, kitchen and bath design, housing
for older adults, and universal design. Dr. Beamish is a certified
kitchen design educator.
Dr. JoAnn Emmel's areas of expertise are home appliance selection, use
and care; residential housing; and energy management.
Dr. Kathleen Parrott is an expert in residential design and housing.
Her special interests include kitchen and bath design and environmental
issues in housing. Dr. Parrott is certified as a kitchen design
educator by the National Kitchen and Bath Association
