About VATFACS

The Virginia Association for Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences, Inc. (VATFACS) is an organization dedicated to promoting Family and Consumer Sciences in Virginia public schools to improve the lives of our students, their families, and our communities.

Our mission is to: 1) collaborate with Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to provide professional development opportunities for family and consumer sciences teachers in Virginia, 2) provide opportunity for collaboration with family and consumer sciences professionals, and 3) support the purposes of the Virginia Association of Career and Technical Education.

Become a VATFACS Member

Opportunities available to members of the professional organization include professional development, recognition for exemplary accomplishments through awards and scholarships, and opportunities for collaboration with family and consumer sciences professionals.

Any person actively involved in the field of Family and Consumer Sciences education in public schools, private schools, the State Department of Education and colleges and universities in the Commonwealth of Virginia is eligible for membership upon payment of dues to VATFACS.

Three membership options are available. Teachers may elect to be members of:

  1. VATFACS/NATFACS for $45 annually (Virginia Association for Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences, Inc./National Association Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences)
  2. VATFACS/ NATFACS/ VACTE/ for $65 annually (Virginia Association for Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences, Inc. / Virginia Association of Career and Technical Education / National Association Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences)

  3. VATFACS/ /NATFACS/ VACTE/ACTE for $145 annually (All above mentioned organizations plus the national membership in the Association for Career and Technical Education)

Officer Nomination

VATFACS is accepting nominations for President-Elect, Vice President, and Secretary. VATFACS invites you to take a leadership role in the professional organization. The job description for each of the positions is available for your review in the nomination form. VATFACS members may nominate themselves for an office. Only paid members of VATFACS may run for office and vote for those on the ballot. Nominations are due March 1st.

Scholarship for Teachers - Sharron K. Glasscock
Deadline for applications is April 15, 2017

VATFACS offers the Sharron K. Glasscock Scholarship for family and consumer sciences teachers who are currently teaching in Virginia, and pursing further education and training in family and consumer sciences.

Scholarships for Students - Martha Creighton and Helen Hopper
Deadline for applications is April 15, 2017

The Martha Creighton and Helen Hopper Scholarships are available for students.

Awards

VATFACS Awards include the Outstanding Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Teacher of the Year, Outstanding New FACS Teacher of the Year, Outstanding FACS Teacher in Community Service, Business and Industry Award, Distinguished Service Award, and Outstanding Administrators Award.

The deadline for submitting applications is April 15, 2017.
