The Virginia Junior Academy of Science (VJAS)
The Virginia Junior Academy of Science held its 2005 Annual Meeting in
conjunction with the Virginia Academy of Science at James Madison
University, Harrisonburg, Va. on May 17. The purpose of this meeting was
to give approximately 700 students, grades seven through twelve, from
throughout the Commonwealth, the opportunity to present papers that
reported original research they had conducted.
VJAS wants to ask you for your assistance and encourage you to sign up
now for the upcoming year. The Annual Meeting will be hosted at Virginia
Tech on May 24, 2006. Please agree to be part of it now! Your
commitment is to have read at most 22 papers prior to hearing student
presentations. What a wonderful way to encourage young scientists.
If you accept you will receive notification of the category you will be
judging, parking permit, housing suggestions and of course the papers
with scoring and questioning techniques to make your involvement easier.
You will also be provided with the schedule and the numbering sequence
for paper presentation. A full breakfast will be offered and the time
and locations will be provided as these details are finalized with
Virginia Tech.
Take the time to register today. Below are a list of categories:
Agriculture and animal science, animal behavior, botany, chemistry,
computer science, consumer science, earth and space science,
engineering, environmental science, genetics and cellular biology, math
and statistics, medicine and health, microbiology, physical science
(pilot), physics, psychology (general, learning and perception, and
social), and zoology.
If you have colleagues you may feel would also be interested in
participating, please do not hesitate to share this information with
them.
Thank you in advance for your assistance and support,
Susan Booth, VJAS Director
