This course is a review of routinely performed laboratory methodologies and procedures for urinalysis and hematology of dogs and cats.

  • Review of urine testing and microscopic analysis of urine sediment including crystals and casts will be covered.
  • Basic review of methodologies used to perform complete blood counts (CBC)
  • Review of manual test procedures, including slide preparation of peripheral blood smear, hematocrit, plasma protein and fibrinogen testing.
  • Review of peripheral blood smears of the dog and cat, including red blood cell morphology, white blood cells and platelets. Participants will have the opportunity to count manual differentials.
  • Quality assurance basics for laboratory testing.

This course is intended to provide in-service training for veterinary laboratory personnel and veterinary technicians.
