Welcome

Engaging Our Communities: Innovation, Inclusion, Involvement

How do you engage your community?

Continuing education is often on the forefront of innovative and creative ways to support and engage our constituencies. In fact, continuing education has not only the capacity to engage our communities in unique and creative ways but many of you are already doing so. UCEA South is committed to helping the members in our region achieve their desired outcomes by sharing what has already proven to be successful.

Hosted by Virginia Tech, the 2008 UCEA South Regional Conference will take place at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center on October 25-28, 2008. Gather in beautiful Blacksburg, VA, to share your innovative ideas and inclusive programs with colleagues.

Conference highlights:

  • New for 2008, a special Saturday Forum will be held to greet those arriving early. Participants will meet with members of “VT Engage,” the campus’ visionary program that encourages “everyone everywhere to do volunteer work as a way to give back to the community.”

  • Whether an experienced continuing education professional or newly immersed in the field, choose from over 20 concurrent sessions focusing on the themes of innovation, inclusion and involvement.

  • A leader in the field of engagement, keynote presenter Jeri Childers, Ph.D., will share cutting-edge research and best practices for assessing campus outreach and community engagement.

  • Ample opportunities to interact with colleagues include facilitated table discussions at mealtimes, networking breaks between sessions, and a regional business meeting.

  • All meals are included, beginning with lunch on Sunday through continental breakfast on Tuesday.

  • Try UCEA South on for size… A special registration fee is extended for first-time attendees. Three or more from the same institution can also register at a considerable saving!

  • Dinner on Tuesday will include 2008 Regional Awards presentations, and will be hosted at Mountain Lake Resort, site of the hit movie Dirty Dancing.

  • Free shuttle service between the Roanoke Airport and the conference hotel will be provided on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday afternoons.

A conference of this size and depth is always the work of many dedicated colleagues. Special thanks goes to the Program Committee, and to our on-site team at Virginia Tech. Our thanks go to them and all the others who worked hard to bring this conference to you.

We can’t wait to hear the unique ways that YOU are supporting and engaging the communities that you serve.

Sincerely,
