2009 DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE PREVENTION
SPEECH CONTEST
Basic Information
Objective:
The Speech Contest is part of Rotary International's continuing effort
to promote drug and alcohol abuse prevention. The speech contest
is to encourage high school students to: (1) consider the extent
and seriousness of the use of mind-modifying drugs including alcohol;
(2) learn of current efforts in their community and nation to reduce
and prevent drug and alcohol abuse; (3) prepare them to be future
leaders in informing their peers of this dangerous problem; and (4)
provide an opportunity to speak out against drugs.

- Explain objective, schedule and awards program.
- Recommend first round competition be held at school(s)
if more than four students participate.
- Inform teachers and students when they will speak at
Rotary Club meeting.

Conduct local contest. Project Chairperson:
- Arranges for students to speak at club meeting.
- Duplicates speech scoring sheets .
- Designates Rotarian as timer and judges (six minutes maximum).
- Invites local media, parents, and teachers to club meeting.
- Presides at speech contest.

participating in district contest to the district project chairperson.
