Dear President:
Please find enclosed information on the District Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Seminar and the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Speech Contest. We are sending information on both programs since they are held at the same time and location. Also, both programs usually involve working with high school guidance counselors. Please share this information with your Youth Committee Chairperson as soon as possible.
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Seminar continues to be an outstanding learning experience for eligible high school youth. Last year, over 135 boys and girls from Rotary District 7570 attended the weekend seminar. Their evaluations of the Seminar were excellent and we encourage you to make this opportunity available to more young people in your area. The seminar has again been extended an extra day. The attached material should provide you with all the information needed to conduct the program.
The Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Speech Contest is an excellent opportunity for any high school student to speak in support of the prevention of drug and alcohol abuse. This multi-District Rotary program offers the top four district winners an opportunity to compete in a regional contest in Chapel Hill, NC. For the past several years, our contestants have rated at the top or near the top at the regional contest. District Governor Napier has as one of his goals to increase the participants in this program, which will be held in conjunction with the RYLA on December 11, 2009. You will find attached all the information needed to conduct the program in your club.
In this packet you will also find the background check forms that need to be completed by the chaperones. Please see that these individuals receive, complete and return these forms to Ron Napier.
Please give some young people the opportunity to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Seminar and the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Speech Contest by sponsoring these programs in your club. If you have any questions, please call a member of the Rotary District Youth Leadership Committee.
