Sustainable Project Management for Facilities and Infrastructure Systems - March 17-20, 2009 - Virginia Tech Northern Virginia Center - Falls Church, VA

General Information

This course has been postponed until Summer 2009.

Sustainable Project Management for Facilities and Infrastructure Systems addresses the practical side of providing sustainable development technologies and services to our changing industry. The course will focus on specific, practical techniques, methods, tools, and resources vital to delivering sustainable engineering services over the full life cycle of facility and infrastructure systems.

Faculty for the course combine both theoretical and practical experience on cutting edge global projects as part of an interactive curriculum.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • articulate the implications of a "sustainable project" that encompasses the entire design life and/or economic life of a facility
  • use tools for planning, delivering and managing a project through all of its life cycle phases
  • understand the attributes and techniques needed to guide projects and project owners through sustainable project design and implementation
  • understand the reasoning behind green design decisions, with a focus on the trade-offs between current costs and long-term sustainable performance
  • analyze performance requirements, green technologies, and national/international sustainable performance standards
  • recognize various aspects of sustainable project planning and execution processes as well as long-term operation management issues
  • find new ways to impart how, on a project-by-project basis, engineers have the technical competence and skills to improve the sustainable built environment and augment the natural environment

Who should attend: Design engineers and project managers who provide programming, design, program management and other services for clients over multiple years are the target audience.
