Course Highlights
The Locomotion Research Laboratory Lab, part of the Center for Innovation in Construction Safety and Health Research.
- Injuries associated with slip and fall accidents continue to pose a significant burden to industry, both in terms of human suffering and economic losses. The Virginia Tech Locomotion Research Laboratory performs many facets of human gait research including slips and falls research to provide new scientific knowledge on the causes of and prevention of accidents involving human locomotion. By touring this lab, OSHA course participants will have the opportunity to see and participate in a realistic simulated slips and falls scenario in a safe and controlled environment. Participants will be able to experience what it feels like to fall and how surprising it can be. This setup allows participants to reflect on the experience of falling, something normally avoided or forgotten. In addition, participants will learn a little about the mechanics of a fall and recognize that it can happen to anyone at anytime.
