The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute's National Surface Transportation Safety Center for Excellence is once again hosting the Third International Symposium on Naturalist Driving Research at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center in Blacksburg, Virginia August 27-30, 2012.
The two-day international symposium (preceded and followed by full-day workshops on Monday, 8/27 and Thursday, 8/30) will gather experts in the field of naturalistic driving research to discuss a wide range of topics including:
- Naturalistic Driving Studies (NDS) Planned Around the Globe
- Driving with Impairments
- Teen and Novice Drivers: Safety, Interventions, and Outreach
- Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles, & Technology: Preliminary Results from the Road
- How NDS Fits into the Research Portfolio Now and in the Future
- Linking Roadway Data Sources to Address Research Questions
- The Future of NDS: Next Generation Vehicles
- NSTSCE Project Highlights
The symposium will provide researchers and practitioners with hands-on experience with NDS data during the workshops, an international review of naturalistic driving research with the opportunity for participants to interact with the panelists to explore naturalistic driving in their respective countries, to the next generation of NDS studies.
Registration for the symposium and/or the workshops will be at The Inn at Virginia Tech at the times listed below:
- For those attending the Symposium only or the Symposium and the Thursday workshop, check-in/registration will be held on Tuesday morning from 7:30-8 a.m.
- Workshop check-in/on-site registration will be held Sunday evening from 5-8 p.m. and on Monday morning, August 27, from 8-9 a.m.
Workshops
For those interested (separate registration fee required for each workshop) there will be two (2) workshops, on Monday, 8/27 and on Thursday, 8/30, also at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center focusing on different areas of naturalistic driving research with an opportunity to explore how NDS data reduction is performed and a hands-on experience with the SHRP 2 NDS dataset.
- Monday, 8/27- "Introduction to the Reduction and Analysis of Naturalistic Driving Data"
- Thursday, 8/30 - "Introduction to the SHRP 2 NDS Dataset"
