Welcome to the LATT 2008!

Updates:

Program: The final conference program will be available at this site by March 12. Please notify Jacqueline Bixler (jbixler@vt.edu) by March 18 if there is anything that needs to be changed (name, affiliation, title of paper, etc.) so that the printed version of the program will contain all of the correct information.

Registration: Registration tables will be set up in the lobby of the Inn during the hours 3:00-7:00 p.m., Weds., and 7:30 a.m.-noon, Thursday. Please stop by and pick up your conference folder and name tag.

If you wish, you may provide the moderator of your panel with 2-3 sentences that can be used to introduce you. Each panelist has been allotted 20 minutes, so please make sure that your presentation does not exceed that limit. Time has been included at the end of each panel for questions and discussion.

Transportation between Roanoke Airport and Blacksburg:
Unfortunately, we are only able to provide transportation service between the airport and Blacksburg to our international visitors and theatre groups, so please use one of the following options:

Smart Way Bus Service
(www.smartwaybus.com)
1-800-388-7005 or 540-982-6622

Service is $3 per person to Blacksburg. The bus operates Monday through Saturday at regularly scheduled times. Bus drops off on the Virginia Tech campus at the Squires Student Center. The Inn and Holiday Inn are both about a 10-minute walk from the bus stop. The trip takes 1 hour.

From Roanoke airport to Virginia Tech, Mon-Sat: 6:35 a.m., 8:05 a.m., 10:05 a.m., 11:35 a.m., 1:05 p.m., 2:35 p.m., 4:05 p.m., 5:35 p.m., 7:05 p.m., 8:35 p.m.

From Virginia Tech (Squires Student Center) to airport, Mon-Sat: 6:20 a.m., 7:05, 7:50, 9:10, 11:20, 12:50 p.m., 2:20, 3:50, 5:20, 6:50, 8:20 p.m. Both the Holiday Inn and the Inn at Virginia Tech that you may request to take you to the bus stop.

Many of you have VERY early departures out of Roanoke Airport. Please estimate an hour for the trip to the airport and an hour for check-in. Meaning, if you have a 6:00 a.m. flight, you should be leaving Blacksburg by 4:00 a.m. Shuttle service must be pre-arranged (see "travel" button). Both the Inn at VT and the Holiday Inn can help you to contact a shuttle service.

Meals: Your registration fee includes the following:
Reception, Weds., 5:00-7:00 p.m., Ballroom, the Inn
Lunch on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 11:30-1:00, in the Latham Ballroom, the Inn at Virginia Tech
Banquet, Saturday, 9:00, Ballroom, Inn at Virginia Tech
Continuous snack and beverage service, Thursday-Saturday. This service is located outside our conference rooms. There you will find a variety of beverages and snacks throughout the day. Help yourself!

Your conference folder will include a list of restaurants in Blacksburg. Most of these are located either within walking distance of the Inn at VT and the Holiday Inn or in downtown Blacksburg, near the theatres. There is also a large Krogers grocery store very close to both hotels. Like other college towns, Blacksburg offers a number of bars, most of them downtown, but the Holiday Inn and the Inn both also have a bar.

Internet: The hotels offer free wireless service to those who bring their laptops. In addition, there are several computer stations in the Inn that you may use for free to check email, flights, etc.

Weather? We can have virtually any kind of weather here at the end of March, so please consult www.weather.com before you leave. There is limited shuttle service available from both the Inn at VT and the Holiday Inn for transportation to the plenaries and performances.

April 16th: The LATT begins just 3 weeks before April 16th, the day on which just a year ago our university lost 32 faculty members and students. A beautiful permanent memorial is located on the Drillfield in front of Burruss and Norris Halls.

Questions/Assistance: There will be a number of students and staff on hand to answer questions.
