CEU Guidelines
Interim Policy Statement
For CEU Only Programs

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) is
reviewing guidelines and procedures relevant to CPE (Continuing and
Professional Education) awarding CEUs (Continuing Education Units) and
other professional designations. CPE will continue to award CEUs for
those programs offered by an administrative or academic unit of the
university and co-sponsored by Continuing and Professional Education.
CPE faculty may act as an advocate for external organizations to
identify appropriate Virginia Tech faculty for sponsorship
consideration. CPE faculty may serve as the academic sponsor of a
proposed program and present the project to the program review team.
The minimal requirements for complying with IACET guidelines are listed
below:
(Items 1-3 should be submitted prior to the program).

An abstract or description of the course learning objectives.
- A copy of the program schedule or syllabus with the agenda and times of actual instruction. This will be used to calculate the number of CEUs granted.
- A bio on each instructor that describes the qualifications of the individual to teach the course. This should be one page or less.
- Copies of course evaluations upon completion of the program.
- Registration forms for each person with the following information or the following information on each person in any form:
Name
Company/Affiliation
Preferred Mailing Address
Phone Number
E-Mail Address (optional)
- CEUs must be awarded for all participants in an approved learning program, (i.e., the decision to receive CEUs is not left up to the individual learner). Therefore, a per person fee will be assessed for each individual who enrolls in the class whether or not they wish o receive CEU credit and/or a certificate.
