About the Growers Academy

The Virginia Tech Catawba Sustainability Center is offering the fifth annual Growers' Academy, a series of courses specifically designed to help new and transitioning agricultural businesses succeed. This 8-session learning series is focused on low-input crop production techniques and launching your own agribusiness. Instructors include resource professionals and farm business owners.

Topics include:

  • Planning for Success: What it takes to start a farm business
  • Healthy, Living Soils
  • Organic Management of Pests and Diseases
  • Business Plans, Startup, and Implementation
  • Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
  • Marketing Strategies for Your Business
  • Crops and Crop Planning
  • Farm Tours

This 8 session learning series is $225. Limited scholarships are available, please inquire.

Dates and Location

February 25 – April 1, 2014 : Tuesdays, 6-8 pm*
Saturday Sessions: March 15 and March 29, 9am - 1pm
