A series of short courses offered by the Virginia Geospatial Extension Program designed to provide accessible and cost effective geospatial training opportunities throughout Virginia. The curriculum includes GIS and GPS training, including ArcPad and more.

The Virginia Geospatial Extension Program

The Virginia Geospatial Extension Program (GEP) Virginia's Geospatial Extension Program, in partnership with the Virginia Space Grant Consortium and Virginia Cooperative Extension, seeks to promote the integration of geospatial tools and techniques through a coordinated approach at the local, regional, and state levels. The program aims to extend opportunities and empower organizations and individuals across the Commonwealth of Virginia through training, assessing application needs, and providing increased access to data resources. Initiatives associated with this program include:

technology and application training,
information sharing,
course development and dissemination,
educational outreach.

Instructor

Mrs. Jennifer Otey is the Geospatial Program Developer for the Geospatial Extension Program. She has a Masters Degree in Forestry with a Geospatial Information Technology certificate from Virginia Tech.

Location and Lodging

Participants are responsible for their own lodging. Lunch will not be provided.

Workshop Information

Classes are appropriate for individuals with little or no previous exposure to GIS or GPS, with the exception of "Intro to ArcPad," which is best suited for individuals with ArcMap/GIS experience. This workshop combines short presentations and lectures, with hands-on activities using ArcGIS and ArcPad software. Familiarity with Windows operating system is required for all classes.

Registration Fees
Fees vary with each topic and date. Please see "Dates and Locations" for details. Participants are responsible for their own lodging. Meals will not be provided.
