Ted Settle
In his current position as director of the Office of Economic Development, Settle provides leadership to university activities and initiatives that generate economic development throughout Virginia. He serves as the primary access point for business, state and local government agencies, and other potential clients and partners to the university's products and services.

Settle has been active in the national engagement conversation for several years. He initiated and served as chair for two years for the Community of Practice on Outreach and Engagement within the University Continuing Education Association. Within the National Association of State University Land-Grant Colleges, he has served as chair of the Council on Extension, Continuing Education, and Public Service (now the Council on Engagement and Outreach), and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness, and Economic Prosperity. More recently, he initiated and co-led the development of the Engagement Academy for University Leaders, coordinated Virginia Tech's successful application to the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and has been an active partner in Virginia Tech's role with the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville, Virginia.

Settle earned his B.S. in Mathematics from Iowa State University; M.B.A. from Harvard University; and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan.
