31st Annual Campaigning with Lee Summer Seminar: Bud's Brigade ~ June 21-27, 2009 - Charleston, South Carolina

November, 2009
Dear "Campaigners:"

Jack and I take pleasure in welcoming you to the 32nd annual "Campaigning with Lee" seminar. We will gather June 20-26, 2010, at the Clarion Hotel in Hagerstown, MD. Not only did we get lucky in finding a hotel in that area; the rates for 2010 are lower than previously.

A longtime friend of many of us, Dennis Frye, will conduct our all-day bus tours of Harpers Ferry and Antietam. In addition, Dick Sommers will be joining us for the entire week and will speak at least twice. Mark Snell of Shepherd University will be making a presentation. Invitations are out to other possible speakers in that region. With this early start, I think we can put together a good program.

Since the 150th anniversary of the Civil War will begin in earnest in 2011, I ask that you give some thought to holding the seminar that year in Richmond. We have not been to the Virginia capital in several years. We would have more choices for possible meeting place. Sesquicentennial events will undoubtedly be in full gear at that time. Richmond would be centrally located for us.

And please mark your calendars early for Saturday, May 21, 2011. Virginia Tech and the state's Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission will co-sponsor an all-day Signature Conference at Tech. Already eight of the nation's leading historians have agreed to speak on the general theme, "Military Strategy in the American Civil War." The conference will be held at Cassell Coliseum. Possibly 5,000 people may be in attendance. Admission is free.

Happy holiday wishes to you all.

Bud

Special Lodging Note for 2010
The Clarion Hotel and Conference Center is designed with an atrium in the center that has a heated indoor mineral pool and new poolside bar. The interior lodging rooms open up directly to the pool area. If you prefer to be away from the main traffic area of the hotel you may desire to have a room away from the pool area. When you register, you will be given the opportunity to choose a poolside room or an exterior room away from the pool area. Please note room assignments will be made based upon availability; therefore, we cannot guarantee your room preference.
