In this historic place, we help the future learn from the past.

Explore Park

Explore Park's Historic Areas feature a unique blend of early western Virginia eras and cultures. Begin your visit at Totero Village, a glimpse into the life of the Native Americans in this region in the 17th century. Next is the Frontier Fort, a fortified homestead common to Virginia's western frontier in the 18th century. Then it's on to the 19th Century, complete with farm and farm animals, one-room school, blacksmith shop, working grist mill, and Virginia's most expansive river culture interpretive site.

Civil War Tours

The Civil War is still very much alive in Virginia, the place where more major Civil War battles were fought than any other state. The Revolutionary War and the Civil War were fought on Virginia battlegrounds that have been preserved and maintained by the National Park Service, Virginia State Parks and private organizations. You just might hear the echoes of the battle cries, see the soldiers in their trenches and smell the lingering smoke of musket-fire as you tour Virginia's battlefields
