College Bound Program Description
Two separate programs are scheduled for the week of June 20-22, 2011 based upon the unique challenges faced by students with specific disabilities. Parent programs parallel that student program.
Two Day Program (Session 1) is designed so that students can return for their junior or senior year in a high school and implement these tools for success with their transition team.
Students will spend the night in a residential hall, in a single, suite-style room and enjoy dining hall meals. Programs begin at 9:30 AM day one and end at 4:00 PM on the second day. Students will be mentored by selected and trained college students with specific disabilities and parents will network with higher education professionals and other parents.
One Day Program (Session 2) is designed for rising high school juniors and seniors diagnosed with Asperger's or a related autism spectrum condition and their parents/guardians. Students will be encouraged to develop the necessary tools for success when they return to high school with their transition team.
Sessions begin at 9:30 AM and end at 4:00 PM. Students will be mentored by specially selected and trained college students with disabilities including autism spectrum conditions, and parents will network with higher education professionals and other parents.
Support may be available from Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services, Virginia Department of Education, Virginia Department for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Pep Net, Radford University Training and Technical Assistance Center and local public schools systems or community scholarships.
