Science and technology are at a crossroads. In the past few decades, there has been a compelling thrust toward multi-disciplinary collaborations and a return to the Humboldtian perspective of connectedness. It is critical, however, that more bridge-building occur to fully realize the promises of fast-growing technology areas such as nanotechnology and biotechnology (Nano-Bio). To reach these new horizons, a challenge before us is to promote better dialogue among faculty and students in a broad swath of science and engineering fields. Bringing international researchers from different disciplines together offers tremendous value in helping to forge new collaborations and promote understanding among disparate fields.
This two-day conference, sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), will assemble world leaders in Nano-Bio to exchange ideas, present latest findings, provide networking opportunities, and charter fruitful directions for future research.
A diverse group of doctoral students, young researchers, and established leaders are invited to engage the new generation of rising talent in this emerging field, forge new collaborations among research laboratories and continents, and address numerous challenges and promises in the realm of the Nano-Bio sector. The conference focuses on three areas:
- cellular engineering,
- targeted delivery of nanomedicine, and
- nanotechnology environmental, health and safety.
