Government Affairs Workshop Description

Workshop Coordinator: Allen Davis
The Role of AEESP and Government Affairs

AEESP has a vested interest in developing and maintaining strong ties with Federal agencies, including Congress. Communicating the expertise of its members to federal decision makers can empower legislators to make scientifically accurate and informed decisions. Also, increased federal funding to support environmental engineering and science research will improve the environmental state of the nation and provide direct benefits to AEESP members.

The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the role that AEESP should play in working with Congress and various federal agencies, including the NSF and EPA. Most large professional organizations employ professional staff to keep up with legislation, funding and appropriations, and to lobby to assist in the mission of the organization. AEESP, however, relies on volunteer service by its membership and has only a modest budget.

Short presentations will be provided as on overview to ongoing initiatives. Opinions and suggestions are solicited. A desired outcome is a formalized strategic plan to maximize exposure of the Association at the federal level within the resource constraints of the Association.

Schedule to come.
