On eleven previous occasions around the world the scientific and engineering community has gathered to consider the science and technology of nondestructive evaluation applied to materials characterization. The 12th International Symposium on Nondestructive Characterization of Materials(TM) NDCM-XII will be held on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia USA June 19-24, 2011. Symposium co-chairs are Dr. B. Boro Djordjevic, Prof. John C. Duke, Jr. and honorary chair Prof. Robert E. Green , Jr.

Traditionally these symposia have functioned to gather technologists of nondestructive methods with engineers and scientists to help explore the applications of nondestructive characterization and solutions to the problems encountered in industrial practice. Papers have included research and applications for aging infrastructure, nondestructive characterization of microstructures, online measurements for process control, measurements for monitoring deterioration processes and structural health, standards for nondestructive characterization of materials, and precision and accuracy of nondestructive characterization measurements.
