Conference Helps Strengthen University and Community Partnerships
How do communities define engagement with institutions of higher
education? What does it mean for communities to choose to engage with
higher education? And what are the implications when communities call
forth their university partners?
These are a few of the questions that challenged the thinking of the
participants of the forth annual university-community partnership
conference. "The Community Calls Forth the University," was the theme of
the July campus event.

Engagement Academy Developed for University Leaders
Plans are underway for the first Engagement Academy, a program designed to
help university leaders across the country be responsive to critical
societal issues during this time of unprecedented global economic
competition.
Engagement Academy for University Leaders will be held June 9-13, 2008 at
the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center and is being offered by Virginia
Tech's Center for Organizational and Technological Advancement.

New Leadership for Continuing and Professional Education
It was a new setting and different faces, but many familiar challenges and
opportunities greeted Mark Bernhard when he arrived at Virginia Tech
several months ago. As the director of Continuing and Professional
Education (CPE), Bernhard has been focusing on expansion and
diversification of programs and services.
